Roof hatch - what parameters should I pay attention to?
1. Material of construction - roof hatches are most often made of wood coated with a layer of impregnation. This makes them resistant to moisture and improves thermal insulation. The glazing fitted with the roof hatch is made of toughened glass, which protects against the effects of severe hailstorms. The frame of the window sash is made of aluminium or steel profiles, which guarantee the appropriate strength of the hatch.
2. Roof hatch functionality - when buying a roof hatch, it is worth paying attention to the functions it offers. Particularly practical are the various locks and stops, which make it possible to stop the tilting of the window sash at any level. This will prevent the window from slamming shut during work on the roof. The way of opening the hatch is also important - preferably to the side, to the right or left side or upwards. The comfort of use will also be improved by a glazing package with a self-cleaning coating.
3. High air-tightness is another important feature of roof hatches. Despite appearances, it is important not only in residential lofts, but also in unused rooms. Special remote-controlled external roller shutters can provide additional protection against the weather.
4. Thermal insulation of the hatch - it should also be checked whether the respective roof hatch is equipped with one or two panes of glass. Particularly in heated attics, roof hatches** with two panes of glass are preferable, as they will significantly reduce heat loss in winter and thus save on energy costs.
5. Suitable dimensions - the dimensions of the roof hatch should be matched to the roof structure. So that the hatch fits between the rafters and no additional changes to the load-bearing elements of the slope are required.
